Discover the power of myofascial bodywork
As a therapeutic tool, a well-trained bare foot is a dynamic powerhouse. It is not only nimble, sensitive, and dexterous, but provides a strong, broad, and steady contact that is undeniably effective.
- Sarga Bodywork
Barefoot massage offers a full-bodied “combing” of connective tissue to facilitate organization in the fibrous fascial network of the body through consistent, controlled pressure.
Myo + Fascia
Myo = Muscle. Fascia is highly innervated connective tissue that provides structural integrity and allows for smooth movement by reducing friction between muscle layers. This connective tissue is made of mechanoreceptors that respond to tension and load. Shearing techniques target mobility, while load and stretch techniques target the nervous system.
Why bare feet?
The broad surface of the foot, combined with the ability to generate power through the legs and add tensional force by using silks, allows the practitioner to more efficiently deliver deep, slow, powerful strokes that affect the mechanoreceptors in target tissue. Using a larger surface (foot) allows for the recipient to more comfortably receive deeper pressure and target more tissue at once.
How do I benefit?
Myofascial massage helps treat muscle pain, inflammation, and restriction by relaxing contracted muscles, stimulating length, hydration, and detoxification in the tissue, and improving blood and lymphatic circulation. The effects on the nervous system lead to improved coordination and reduced movement-related anxiety, and can potentially reset faulty motor patterns by introducing change to sensory input, which is beneficial for athletes and individuals with neurological conditions.
